Loving When You Dont Feel Like It

Hey Luvs,

Have you ever been in a place where you just don't feel like you can show love to someone?. Have you been so hurt to the point that loving them seems to difficult?. Well that happens to all of us!

Many a times, I just felt like taking my love away from family, friends, co workers, myself everyone! At times you feel that you give, give and give with nothing in return or you are met with something else. But the ability to love is a powerful thing that God instilled into His children, unfortunately not everyone practises it.

Love has the ability to create or bring to life anything you can think of. The world was created out of love, likewise the crucifixion of Christ was done out of love. That is enough for us to see the magnitude of the word 'love'. In order for you to be seen as a child of God you have to show love (1 john 4:7). The word love is both a noun and a verb meaning it is used to describe and in action.  We live in a world where love is almost disappearing from our society. People are finding it very difficult to love especially when they do not feel like it. But we must remember that we are the ones who drive 'love'. In other words we are the ones with the key that opens the way to the expression/action of love.

The bible talks extensively about the importance of loving one another and loving your enemies why? Because God understands the impact of love, after all it is His very nature! Love is the greatest commandment God gave to His children (Mark 12:31), when all is said and done something needs to bind us all together! There may be days where you just don't feel like loving a particular person, but imagine if God also felt that day like not loving you. How painful that would be! I use this example because we must become Christ like in our ways or working towards it. What if that day God decided not to smile with you or do something nice for you 'just because' or because you had hurt Him through sin. We wouldn't be where we are today if so.

Loves gives the ability for people to stand united which the enemy hates. He loves discord and hatred which is his own character. I personally have gotten to the point where I removed myself from people because I felt that at the time I could not show genuine love for various reasons. However after a while I would self reflect, refresh and restore my heart and mind to come back to the place of showing them Christ like love. Does it make you a fool? No it does not, what it does show is your maturity in Christ. Love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8). Do we actually understand the gravity of this statement?

It is not wrong to feel like you cannot give genuine love to someone/something, but what is wrong is staying in that position and harbouring un-forgiveness. It is also not wrong to feel victimised due to experiences, but it will be wrong to stay in that mindset/experience. Someone's destiny is tied to yours, for all you know you could be hindering someone's elevation and yours. I know too well how painful it is to forgive and forget, but it is important that you do and move on. We need forgiveness from God and He requires us to forgive others in order to receive this. Again, God would not stress the importance of loving one another and placing a requirement for our own forgiveness if He felt it was of no significance.

Be the one person that shows love despite the situation in a hope that it would change. Love even when you don't feel like it, love does not cost anything. Even when you find yourself not being able to love ask God for Grace and forgiveness, He is more than able to do so. Remember we are striving to be perfect in Christ Jesus. It is a journey, don't be afraid to fail at it but remember not to stay in the failure.

''Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful'' (Colossians 3:12-15).
