Bible School: The Miraculous Can Only Happen If You Believe

Hey Luvs,

I wish above all things that you prosper and be in good health (3 John 1-2). I pray you are all doing well! “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible” (Hebrews 11:2).

Today I want to talk about miracles, a thing that many hope for yet don't believe that they are possible. A miracle is a divine act that surpasses what is normally seen as natural/normal/human that cannot be explained in any natural way. Miracles happen every single day around the world to those who believe that they are possible, it even happens to those who don't and they may not acknowledge it to be a miracle. From the beginning of time God was in the business of making miracles happen. He is a miracle working God, the Alpha and the Omega! The creation of man and the world is a miracle in it self, to date researchers are still trying to give a plausible explanation of how the world was created, but what they do not realise is that the creator (God) operates in miracles. He spoke and the world was created, he breathed into man and he became alive (Genesis 2:7). If that was not a miracle (a divine act that cannot be explained naturally) then what is?

I was watching a TV programme that spoke about miracles and some people received theirs and some did not, there was a lot of controversy around healing etc. But what the Holy Spirit told me was that the first start to a miracle taking place is by the person believing that it can. It is by them believing that God has the omnipotent power to bring to life what they are expecting. In the absence of this they allow unbelief, disappointment and doubt. The miraculous can only occur if you allow its place in your life. Any seed of doubt/unbelief will throw off the wavelength in which is operating in.

The bible often talked about miracles, he also made reference to the fact that in Nazareth Jesus did very few miracles because of the peoples unbelief (Matthew 13:53-58).

Let's look at some examples of miracles that occurred:

  • The healing of the Centurion's servant (Matthew 8:5-13)- A contrarian's servant was sick with palsy which in those times if afflicted you would die a few days later. The centurion heard that Jesus was in Capernaum and wanted him to heal the servant. Bible describes this man to be of great faith and humility. He described himself of not being worth of having Jesus in his house, but he understood spiritual authority. He believed that Jesus's power was so great that healing could be done from any distance. He had confidence and faith and the healing occurred!

  • Blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10: 46-52)- Bartimaeus was a blind man who was in the town of Jericho. He was sat at the road side begging and when he heard that Jesus was around he shouted out to Him. When Jesus responded despite the crowd discouraging Him to he hastily got up and told Jesus that he wants to see. There instantly he was healed and Jesus told him that His faith had healed him and he continued to follow Jesus along the road.

  • The woman with the issue of blood (Luke 8:43-48)- Bible described this woman as having an issue of blood for twelve years and had spent all her money on physicians who could not provide the healing she needed. When she saw Jesus she simply touched the end of his garment and she was immediately healed. Again Jesus told her that her FAITH has made her whole.

  • The Healing of Hezekiah (Isaiah 38:1-22)- Prophet Isaiah had  informed Hezekiah that he was going to die following his illness and he would not recover. However Hezekiah knew the faithfulness, mercy and the power of God and he presented his strong reason before God (Isaiah 41:21) and God overturned the judgement and added 15 more years to his life and delivered him from the king of Assyria.

  • The three Jews in the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:1-30)Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were three men who were placed in a fiery furnace because they refused to worship the Gods of the land and told King Nebuchadnezzar that they only bow down to God. Because of this they were thrown into a fire, but they told him that they knew that God would deliver them and because of this the King made the furnace hotter than it has ever been before. But God sent an angel to deliver them and they came out untouched. Their belief in the miraculous was able to deliver them and also bring Nebuchadnezzar to repentance.

  • Jonah being delivered from the mouth of the whale (Jonah 1&2)-Jonah found himself in the belly of a whale due to his disobedience (refusing to go to Nineveh to preach) and God wanted to teach him a great lesson. Whilst in the belly of the whale Jonah cried out to God and believed that God could miraculously deliver him from his situation and God did so. (This story is more about obedience to God however it links to the faith of Jonah & old testament miracles because of faith and that is why it is used)
These are mere examples of how God operated in the miraculous and as you read and study the Bible you will come across them. But when we pay attention to particular miracles we see that out of these miracles came:
  • Discipleship
  • Great testimonies
  • How to pray& present reasons
  • Deliverance of nations
  • Peace
  • Repentance
  • Restoration
There are many lessons we can pick out of the miracles that God did. What I am trying to say that it is not just the miracle that is a miracle, it is the domino effect they have. It is the fact that through miracles other things are birthed, peoples faith increases, they act as testimonies that will encourage other peoples faith. More importantly, bring people to Christ. After Bartimaeus was healed Bible says he followed Christ, we were not there and scripture does not say this but can you imagine how he would have been evangelising and sharing his testimony to other people, likewise the woman with the issue of blood.

The miraculous does exist, it inhabits the expectant soul. Having faith is the incubator for a miracle. Without faith it will be very difficult for you to receive what you are waiting for. You need to have the attitude of 'without reasonable doubt I believe God will do it'. You are not the first person to have a yearning for something, wait patiently for it and loose hope. But you must not, the scenarios above were deliberating circumstances, if you are reading this then you are not blind. Can you just imagine what Bartimaeus was going through , he was also a beggar, but through all of that he believed. Have that rugged crazy faith these people had.

The three Jews in the fire, you could say they were completely crazy because fire does burn and kill. But because of their unshakeable and unmoveable faith in God they received their miracle. They even went as far as saying if they died it would have been God's will but God delivered them from destruction. You can clearly see that from the time of BC (Before Christ) people needed miracles, and till today we still need them. God is so faithful and He does not fail. You need to believe that God has the power to do what you need Him to do, don't look or focus on negativity or the 'enemy' don't give it that much attention. The more you channel your focus into something the more it becomes real to you. Channel your focus into the power of God. He is Mightier than any situation/circumstance and He is waiting to do a miracle for you.

I want to encourage you to come to the place of unshakable faith. To the place where you cast all your cares and burdens onto God. Remember:

''And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him'' (Hebrews 11:6).

I pray you have been blessed and you are working towards being an unmoveable container of faith that will propel the miracles of God!

I love you with the Love of God
